Penn State vs Northwestern Basketball at Welsh Ryan Arena 2024

On Sunday February 11, 2024, I attended a college basketball game in Evanston, Illinois at Welsh Ryan Arena. The Pennsylvania State University Nittany Lions basketball team came to town to take on the Northwestern Wildcats. The final score was 68 for the Wildcats and 63 for the Nittany Lions. Northwestern guard Boo Buie finished with 15 points and 6 assists. Penn State guard Nick Kern Jr. finished with 18 points but fouled out late. Penn State kept it close but Northwestern ultimately prevailed.

Penn State vs Northwestern Football at Ryan Field 2023

On Saturday September 30, 2023, I attended a college football game in Evanston, Illinois at Ryan Field on a bright sunny and seasonably warm day. The Pennsylvania State University Nittany Lions took on the Northwestern Wildcats. Northwestern got off to a quick start scoring a field goal on the opening drive. Penn state responded with its own field goal. Northwestern then went up 10 to 3 in the second quarter but Penn State evened up the score going into halftime. Northwestern looked good in the first half but unfortunately things did not go there way in the third quarter as Northwestern failed to convert on a crucial 4th and 1 and Northwestern attempted a fake punt that failed to convert. In the fourth quarter, Northwestern quarter back Ben Bryant was knocked out of the game and Northwestern quarterback Brendan Sullivan came on in relief. Penn State won the game with a score of 41 to 13. Northwestern quarterback Ben Bryant finished 14 of 25 with 125 yards. Northwestern wide receiver A.J. Henning had a good day on kick returns going for 78 yards on 3 attempts. For Penn State quarterback Drew Allar finished with 189 yards in the air and one passing touchdown.

Ohio State vs Northwestern Football at Ryan Field 2022

On Saturday November 5, 2022, I attended a college football game in Evanston, Illinois at Ryan Field. The Ohio State Buckeyes came to town to take on the Northwestern Wildcats on a windy day with periodic rain and thunderstorms. The Ohio State Buckeyes football team beat the Northwestern Wildcats by a score of 21 to 7. Northwestern kept it close though as the game was tied at halftime and Northwestern had a chance late. Northwestern quarterback Brendan Sullivan completed 10 passes with 14 attempts for 79 yards while Northwestern quarterback Ryan Hilinski also saw action but did not complete a pass on three attempts. Northwestern running back Evan Hull finished with 122 yards on 30 carries and had one rushing touchdown. Ohio state quarterback C. J. Stroud completed 10 passes on 26 attempts for 76 yards while running back Miyan Williams finished with 111 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Michigan State vs Northwestern Basketball at Allstate Arena 2018

I was able to attend a college basketball game at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois, on Saturday, February 17, 2018. The Northwestern University Wildcats played the Michigan State University Spartans. All homes games for the 2017 to 2018 Northwestern University basketball season are being played at Allstate Arena while Welsh-Ryan Arena undergoes a renovation.

Northwestern faced a tough opponent in Michigan State as they were the #2 AP ranked men’s college basketball team in the U.S. coming into the game. Northwestern played extremely well in the first half and led by 27 points at one point before going into halftime up 49 to 27. However, Northwestern struggled in the second half scoring only 11 points total. Michigan State won the game with a score of 65 to 60.

Northwestern forward Vic Law lead the team with 21 points and 5 assists. Northwestern forward Gavin Skelly added 11 points and 2 rebounds and center Dererk Pardon had 8 points and 6 rebounds; however, both had foul trouble late and had trouble staying on the floor. Michigan State guard Cassius Winston had 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists. Northwestern had a chance to knock off a top team, but failed to score for more than than 11 minutes in the second half.

Illinois vs Northwestern Basketball at Allstate Arena 2017

I was able to attend a college basketball game at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois, on Friday, December 1, 2017. The Northwestern University Wildcats played the University of Illinois Fighting Illini. Northwestern is playing all home games for the 2017 to 2018 basketball season at Allstate Arena while Welsh-Ryan Arena undergoes a renovation.

Northwestern beat Illinois by a score of 72 to 68 in overtime. Northwestern guard Scottie Lindsey came off the bench to score a team high 22 points. Northwestern forward Vic Law scored 16 points with seven rebounds while Northwestern guard Bryant McIntosh scored 14 points with six assists.

Orange wearing Illini fans greatly outnumbered purple wearing Wildcats fans in attendance. Several Northwestern football players and the head football coach Pat Fitzgerald were in attendance, as the players named to the All-Big Ten this season were recognized during a timeout. The Northwestern University “Wildcat” Basketball Band and Northwestern University director of athletic bands Daniel J. Farris were also in attendance to play songs for the crowd throughout the game.
